José Toro-Alfonso (1952-2015) was a distinguished Puerto Rican psychologist, who contributed in several ways to the development of psychology at the Inter American and International levels, by his research work, scientific articles, books, participation in academic events, university teaching and international networks. He was a recognized leader in the Interamerican Society of Psychology (SIP), as Secretary General between 2001 and 2005, President Elect (2009-2011), President (2011-2013) and Past President (2013-2015). His research work on gender-based discrimination, human rights, homosexuality, LGBTI population, violence, eating disorders, and other topics, were widely recognized. SIP advanced due to his leadership, his commitment, and his social abilities.
